#METPHYS2023
The Metabolic
Physiology Meeting
2023
Hosted By White-McGarrah Lab
The Metabolic Physiology Meeting 2023 brought together trailblazers in metabolic physiology research from around the globe, featuring speakers from Australia, Europe, Canada, and the United States. It was the first edition of a yearly scientific meeting hosted by Phillip White and the White-McGarrah Lab with the generous support of our partners at Sable Systems International, Inotiv, Novo Nordisk, Atomic VC, and Lucid Scientific.
The live meeting covered a broad range of topics including molecular mechanisms governing metabolic homeostasis, nutrient sensing, metabolic flux, cancer metabolism and immunometabolism, and provided a home for discourse and networking across the many distinct domains of metabolic physiology research.

THE SABLE AWARD
Kathryn E. Wellen, PhD, is the inaugural recipient of The Sable Award for outstanding contributions to the field of metabolic physiology. Dr. Wellen is an Associate Professor of Cancer Biology and Principal Investigator of the Wellen Lab at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Wellen was selected as the inaugural recipient of this new prestigious award and lecture in recognition of her pioneering work defining the mechanisms by which cellular metabolic processes influence gene expression. The Sable Lecture was presented with a $20,000 honorarium at the meeting.
The Metabolic Physiology Meeting also revealed that next year’s Sable awardee will be selected from this year’s lineup of speakers.
